Walnut Festival 5K Nut Run

Theresa Hickman, chairperson of the Nut Run, informed us the 2007 Nut Run rules are same as 2006. The 53rd Black Walnut Festival™ 5k Run begins at Nichols Graphics and ends in front of the Roane County Court House.
This race is open to runners of all ages. Categories are: 13 and under, 14-15, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over with female and male categories for each age division. T-shirts are awarded to all runners. The top male and female in each division receive medals and the top male and female overall receive special awards.
Roane General Hospital provides transportation to the starting point. Starting time for the race is set for 1 pm Sunday, October 14th.
An awards ceremony will take place immediately following the race. Registration/check in time begins at 11 am in front of the courthouse. Entry fee is $15 in advance and $20 on race day. For more information call 927-6370.
Runners from Fayetteville and Spencer were the first to cross the finish line Sunday in their divisions of the 2006 WV Black Walnut Festival™ 5K Nut Run. Larry Taylor of Fayetteville was the winner in the male division and first overall for the second straight year with a time of 16 minutes, 9 seconds while Caitlin Boggs of Spencer placed first among females in 23:22.
